Maester Aemon Targaryen, formerly the last living Targaryen on Westeros, gives an interactive walking tour of Mellifont Abbey. The talk focuses on Mellifont as a centre of learning and arts during the Dark Ages.

Maester Aemon, who worked in the scriptorium before joining the Night’s Watch, is also expected to speak of the fall of the monastery after a dragon attack in 1539. The Annals of the Four Maesters ascribed the fall of the Abbey to Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries but Maester Aemon, who was there, is expected to reveal that this was a cover up designed not to alarm the peasant masses.

The famed dragonslayer George was contracted in to deal with the dragon which he did, gaining a Sainthood in the process.

Tea/coffee and a fruit scone included in ticket price.
