Drogheda Borough Council has submitted a collection of stamps to An Post for consideration for its 2017 catalogue. Council members voted unanimously in favour of the initiative. A statement released by the Council explained that the decision to commemorate themselves on national stamps was not lightly taken. A statement read by a faceless civil servant press officer had this to say…

“It is with great pride that Drogheda Borough Council has submitted a collection of six stamps for consideration by An Post for inclusion in its 2017 national catalogue. While the images are of incumbent councillors, the sentiment reflects a wider dedication to local government by Borough and County Councils the country over. We call on our fellow councillors in local government to support our submission in the spirit of camaraderie and brotherly love.”

Local artists Fists McKevitt, best known for his daring experimental work with Tulleyallen Erotic Art Collective, was commissioned to design the stamps. Fists’ work often challenges the perceptions his subjects hold of themselves. He is open for commissions at present and often gets the best out of his subjects by working naked and communicating through a mixture of mime, silent brutalist violence and body paint.
